Mr. Nguyễn Phú Cường, the company’s director, said this is the second year Donatechno has signed durian export contracts to the US. The US partner proposed Donatechno to sign long-term contracts and become the exclusive distributor of the fruit in the US market, but this time it only shipped 300 tonnes to the market.
According to Mr. Cuong, over 6,000 orchards, mostly in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, have received the company’s total investment of some VND 30 billion to grow Dona durian.
Besides, it has also held technical courses to train farmers. In 2010, the orchards are expected to harvest almost 2,000 tons of durian fruit.
The Dona durian was selected by Donatechco and bred from Thailand’s Mong Thon durian after a contract between the company and local farmers was agreed several years ago. Dona durian has both beautiful appearance and sweet than other types of durian, many customers love it.
In 2009, Donatechno located in Long Khanh town, Dong Nai province, exported first 15 tons of durian to the US and to be evaluated as good quality. Earlier in 2008, it also exported 20 tons of fruit to Shenzhen in China.(Translated by Ho Le Hong Chau)
