The Vietnam National Chemical Group (VINACHEM) holds all of the chartered capital of its 10 subsidiaries and more than 50 percent of the chartered capital of 16 joint stock companies while having contributed capital to 11 companies and joining four joint ventures with different partners. All of these companies are operating in the chemical field so VINACHEM considers developing production and trade pertaining to environment protection its major task.

From awareness improvement…

Over the past several years, VINACHEM is more interested in environmental pollution control and environment protection.
Many businesses in the chemical industry engaged in cleaner production demonstration models in an attempt to encourage the industrial sector to apply these advanced production models.
VINACHEM joined a waste audit program, which is aimed at waste control, implemented pollution survey projects and constructed plans for pollution control.
A large number of businesses in the industry registered to implement projects under which they conserve raw materials, energy and water resources and reduce production-related wastes.
VINACHEM is one of corporations that have been effective in internal and technology management, energy conservation and by-product creation. The corporation launched movements to improve employees' awareness of cleaner production importance. Cleaner production has taken root while being planned for taking place in factories that are to be constructed.
…to investment in cleaner production
Most of VINACHEM affiliates have renovated their technology. The Lam Thao Fertilizers and Chemicals Company has renovated its technology. The new technology has helped the company reject bulky, polluting equipment, considerably reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfur trioxide (SO3) concentrations in exhaust gas emissions and make solid wastes almost no longer exist. The company invested in many other projects to minimize pollution, including water supply and wastewater treatment upgrading, treatment of all of technological water of three circulation acid workshops, which is re-supplied to production, construction of an electricity production workshop using redundant heat and steam, and more. As a result, exhaust gas emissions from the company are lower than Vietnam's permissible levels. The company is working hard to discharge no wastewater that pollutes the environment by the end of 2010.
The Van Dien Fused Magnesium Phosphate Fertilizer Company's projects, which improved the company's rotary kilns and exhaust gas and wastewater treatment systems, helped increase the company's capacity to 100,000 tonnes per year, reduce coal consumption by 24 percent and electricity consumption by 20 percent, and make exhaust gas and toxic elements of exhaust gas and wastewater no longer exist.
The Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemical Company researched to design a cyanide and hydro sulfur (H2S) treatment technology and improve the ammonia recovery technology.
The Viet Tri Chemical Joint Stock Company installed a three-layer filtering tank for asbestos fiber recovery. At the company, exhaust gas of steam boilers and kilns and other sources are treated before being discharged into the environment.
VINACHEM battery, rubber and chemical producers also renovated their technology while strictly controlling solid wastes, wastewater and exhaust gas to assure that these wastes do not harm the environment.
VINACHEM invested VND150 billion in all of the above-mentioned projects in 2007 and 2008. VINACHEM General Director said that the corporation will invest more in such pollution control projects to better protect the environment.
What VINACHEM and its affiliates have been doing is compliant with the State's policies on sustainable development, contributes to making the Vietnamese environment cleaner and is something that should be commended./.(VEN online)
