The Vietnamese processed wood industry is booming with exports being recorded at 937 million USD for the first five months of the year, an increase of 21 per cent year over 2006.
The Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association attributed the surge in export revenues to a greater number of added value products and design centred pieces being shipped overseas.
Highlighting the industry’s surge, the country has now become home to three industrial zones in Ho Chi Minh City, the Central Highlands and Hanoi that specialise in wood processing.
With an average growth of around 40 percent a year, Vietnam has emerged as a top four exporter of wooden products in Southeast Asia, following Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
